International Award Winning Photographers Join Hull Team for HIPphotofest 2015

The public are invited to Hull International Photography Festival, launching at Hull International Photography Gallery, Upper Deck, Princes Quay Shopping Centre, on Friday 2nd October.

The festival will then continue for Saturday & Sunday with a wealth of things to see and do, to immerse yourself in the world of photography including exhibitions, workshops and seminars. After the opening weekend, the exhibitions and workshops will continue daily in Prices Quay and in venues around the City until 30th October.

This year the Hull team have expanded in preparation for 2017 and 5 Patrons have come on board to support, advise and represent the festival. Between them they have a BAFTA, a World Press Photo Award, this years Jerwood/Photoworks Award and several other global accolades. All five patrons will also be exhibiting their work and sharing their considerable experience at HIPphotofest 2015. They are:

John Bulmer – Pioneering British photojournalist
Frieke Jannsons – Belgian based fine art and advertising photographer
Peter Dench – Award winning Getty photojournalist
Matt Finn – Jerwood Photoworks winner 2015
Ami Barwell – Music & fashion photographer

HIPphotofest Creative Director and Creative & Cultural Company CEO Alan Raw said:

“It is a real honour to be working alongside such talent and experience. We have 16 exhibitions including the Royal Photographic Society Biennial Exhibition in the POP Gallery, which is the best 100 photos from the RPS members in the last 2 years. One thing that makes me very proud to be part of the festival is the local talent that will stand up very well alongside the international work. Our Patron Ami Barwell is a great example of this talent. Ami is Hull born and proud of it and has work in Vogue, I.D., Elle magazine, Rolling Stone, NME and many more including her own clothing range by Ben Sherman. It will be great to have Ami in town for the festival showing her work with her fellow Patrons.”

Also exhibiting at HIPphotofest Is Hull based photographer Graeme Oxby who has recently joined the team as Artistic Director. His exhibition of pictures featuring Elvis impersonators, “The King’s of England” will be showing at the Central Library.

This international festival is the work of the Creative and Cultural Company, a Hull based independent voluntary arts organisation developing cultural links between Hull and the rest of the world. Creating exchange and showcase opportunities for local artists.

The festival showcases the work of fabulous photographers from the Hull area alongside multi award winning photographers from around the globe, including: Birgit Krippner – New Zealand, Norbert Pietraszek – Poland, Andrea Lea – Norway & Agnieszka Szczurowska – Seatle.

We (Ideas & Images) have been asked to provide two events during the festival. The first event is a talk as part of Graeme Oxby’s Fridays discussion on the ‘Photographic Futures (£20 or £15 with a Festival Passport). The second will be a practical look at photographing people using simple equipment found in most photography bags (Free to attend).
